Intermarriage is no longer a deep, dark secret; it’s a common phenomenon. We all have intermarried couples in our extended families or know people who do. Intermarriage creates real-life challenges for the couple, their parents and grandparents. Partners in an interfaith marriage have all the challenges that any young couple must handle. In addition, they also must decide how to raise their children and how to manage the relationship between their Jewish and non-Jewish relatives. As parents, as grandparents, as friends of an interfaith couple, our actions can make it harder or easier for everyone involved. What we can offer is a place to talk through the emotions, the issues, and the relationships that make intermarriage dialogue so difficult. KERUV (pronounced Kay-roov) is a program developed to help couples, parents, and their extended families deal with these and other issues regarding interfaith relationships and marriage. KERUV is an attempt to bring Jews and their non-Jewish partners closer to us and to our traditional standards. It tries to help everyone understand how their extended families feel and how to bring the families together. Thanks to Jerry and Irene Neimark, trained Keruv volunteers, we are bringing this much needed program to Congregation Beth Am. Spring Programs of 2008 Mingled Roots –Let’s Talk is a Guide for Jewish Grandparents and Parents of Interfaith Children and intermarried couples. We will discuss what to say and how to say words that will bring us closer as families. It will be a journey group where we will explore, discuss, and share our feelings on the many issues that confront the often difficult subject of Intermarriage. This group will meet in member homes on Tuesdays at 7:00 P.M. on the following dates: There will be no cost to attend any of the programs. If you interested in getting involved or want to be notified about our programs, please contact us at: keruv@betham.com or call Debra at 858-481-8454. |
