Beth Am is home to a very active youth community with over 200 active members in our Youth Groups. Youth group activities are offered to children and teens in kindergarten through 12. KATAN-TAN: "Little” is our group for our kindergarteners and 1st graders. It is our goal that through Katan-Tan membership and participation, our “little ones” continue to build their Preschool community and develop new friendships. Throughout the year we will hold about four chapter events, and will usually meet at the synagogue. The membership fee is $18 which provides discounts to all Katan-Tan events.
- MAHAR: “Tomorrow”, is our group for 2nd & 3rd graders, they are our Jewish future, “tomorrow.” We begin to expose the group to Jewish programming and values in a fun social atmosphere. The group meets on a monthly basis. The membership fee ($30 Beth Am families • $40 Non CBA members) includes Beth Am Chapter membership, which provides discounts at all Mahar Events and a Mahar t-shirt.
- KADIMA: “Forward”, is our group for 4th through 6th graders. Each month Kadimanicks get together with new and old friends for fun and active programs that focus on Israel, religious, tikkun olam programming in a fun welcoming environment. In addition to monthly events, Kadima, as part of the Far West Region of United Synagogue Youth, participates in a regional retreat weekends at Camp Ramah. The membership fee ($40 Beth Am families • $50 non CBA members) includes Beth Am Chapter membership, which provides discounts at all chapter events, Far West Regional membership, and a Kadima t-shirt.
Jr. USY: Jr. United Synagogue Youth is our Pre/Post Bar Mitzvah group for 7th & 8th graders. Jr. USY has bimonthly Saturday night social events, as well as participates in Teen Minyan’s and some lounge nights with Sr. USY. The group incorporates Israel, social action, and tikkun olam, and religious programming, while developing life-long friendships. As part of the Far West Region of United Synagogue Youth, Jr. USY attends two regional retreat weekends, with typically 150 Jr. USYers from around the region. Sr. USY: Sr. United Synagogue Youth 9th - 12th graders meet on a weekly basis with fun and interactive lounge nights, monthly Teen Minyan’s, and monthly Saturday night events. Beth Am USY belongs to the Far West Region of United Synagogue Youth, which includes participation in several regional retreat weekends throughout the year including LEAD and convention. USY builds the Jewish leaders by planning religious, Israel, social action, tikkun olam programming in a Jewish social setting. The membership fee ($60 Beth Am families • $80 non CBA families) includes Beth Am Chapter membership, which provides discounts at all chapter events, Far West Regional membership, and International USY membership. College Connection: College Connection is a free service we offer all Beth Am college students! Through college connection Beth Am keeps in touch with our college students throughout North America by sending packages and emails. While there is no cost, we ask that you update your address on an annual basis as many college students move every year. Beth Am Youth Groups meet several times a month for various social, religious, and community service programs. Our groups are open to Jewish youths whose families are members of Beth Am, as well as to those whose families are not members (see dues information below). Youth Group members have the opportunity to attend both local chapter events as well as Regional and International programs, at a discounted rate, with other Jewish youths from around the globe. Dues entitle USY, Kadima, and Mahar members to attend all activities at the member rate. It also makes you a member of the Regional and National organization which allows the USYer or Kadimanik to attend Regional and National Programs (Leadership Education and Development Weekend, Regional Convention, various Regional dances, International Heschel Kinnus and Chapter hosted Kinnusim). Financial assistance is available - please talk to our Youth Director - all Jewish children are encouraged to participate regardless of ability to pay.
