Men's Club Youth Scholarship Program

The Beth Am Men's Club (BAMC) is pleased to offer $2,000 in scholarships to supplement expenses associated with attending a Jewish summer camp or an organized youth trip to Israel.  Any youth who is in High School (grades 9 through 12), whose family are members in good standing with Congregation Beth Am, and who has not previously received a BAMC scholarship is eligible.  Scholarships will be awarded based solely on the merit of this application.  A Selection Committee will read all applications “blindly” (i.e., the application will be reviewed without knowing the identity of the applicant), and will select up to 4 recipients (with the scholarship money split evenly among the recipients) by consensus based upon the quality of their work.  If there is only one deserving applicant, he/she will receive all of the scholarship funds.  Scholarship recipients will be expected to provide personal reflection of their trip during a Shabbat service in the fall/winter of 2018. If the scholarship winner does not attend the summer program for which he/she applied, for whatever reason, the funds will be withdrawn.

• Applications must be received by email on or before 12:00 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018
• The Selection Committee will notify all applicants of its decision by Friday, February 16, 2018 
• The decisions of the Selection Committee are final.

Beth Am Men's Club Youth Scholarships - FAQ’s

The Beth Am Men's Club (BAMC) enthusiastically announces the BAMC Youth Scholarship for the summer of 2018. $2,000 in total scholarship funds will be awarded to Beth Am youth currently attending High School (grades 9 through 12) to supplement expenses associated with attending a Jewish summer camp or an organized youth trip to Israel. Scholarships will be awarded to the highest quality applications only. If only one quality application is received, that applicant will receive all of the funds. We will award up to 4 scholarships of $500 each. 

Who is eligible?  

Any youth whose family is a member in good standing at Congregation Beth Am, is currently in High School, and who has not previously received a BAMC scholarship.   

What does the application entail? 

The application will consist of a general questionnaire, a 300 word essay, and several short-answer questions. 

*Please note that scholarship recipients will be expected to provide a personal reflection of their camp experience or trip to Israel during a Shabbat service during fall/winter 2018. 

How are scholarship recipients selected? 

All scholarship awards are merit-based. A Selection Committee will anonymously read all applications and essays, and select up to four winners.   

When is the scholarship application available and when is it due? When will I be notified if I am receiving a scholarship? 

Applications will be available on Monday November 20, 2017 The application can be downloaded from the Beth Am website and can be emailed upon request.  All applications must be sent by email to Daniel Klaristenfeld (dklaristenfeld@betham.com) on or before 12:00 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018.  The Selection Committee will notify all applicants of their decision by February 16, 2018.
