Dr. Darren Sigal, has been a Beth Am member for many years and a specialist in Hematology & Oncology. Darren will give an overview on the landscape of anti-cancer therapy with a special focus on the exciting advances in targeted therapy and immunotherapy over the past few years.

Darren Sigal Bio: Dr. Darren Sigal graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from UCLA with a degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.  He earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine.  Dr. Sigal performed subspecialty training in Hematology/Oncology at Scripps Clinic.  Upon finishing his fellowship, Dr. Sigal joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Scripps Clinic.  He is now the Director of the GI cancer program at Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center and Scripps Clinic.

Dr. Sigal treats patients with a variety of GI malignancies, including esophageal/gastric cancer, hepato-biliary cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and neuroendocrine tumors.  He has a particular interest in pancreatic cancer, helping develop a multidisciplinary pancreatic and biliary cancer program at Scripps Clinic.  Dr. Sigal created a translational GI cancer research program with strong collaborations with the local and regional biotechnology industry and basic science academic centers, including Scripps Research and Sanford Burnham Prebys Molecular Discovery Institute.  Dr. Sigal provides guidance to pre-clinical investigations as well as clinical protocol development.  His areas of research focus on predictive biomarkers, novel therapeutics, and immune therapy.  Dr. Sigal actively accrues patients to both novel investigator-initiated and pharmaceutical sponsored trials.  He also reviews and publishes his research in major clinical and scientific journals.
