JLC Supplementary Programs
Hebrew Enrichment
Focusing on Israeli culture, children will develop a better understanding of the Hebrew language as well as mastering basic vocabulary. The class is led in Hebrew 80% of the time, and students are encouraged to speak as much as possible. The vocabulary taught in the class focuses on the students’ everyday life experiences (self and family, home, holidays, food, colors, clothing, weather, etc). Learning is based on repetition and fun activities, including art and cooking, in which each lesson adds to the ones prior.
Please note: To participate in this program, the student must be enrolled in the JLC program. This program does not replace the Jewish Learning Center’s curriculum, but is a great supplement highlighting Hebrew conversational skills.
General Goals and Objectives:
Students will be able to:
-
Develop basic Hebrew vocabulary
-
Follow basic directions in Hebrew
-
Get a glimpse of Israeli culture and lifestyle, including cooking Israeli foods and listening to songs that are popular in Israel
-
Celebrate holidays with an Israeli twist, focusing on symbols and Israeli culture
-
Hold simple conversations with their peers
-
Act out different scenarios in Hebrew (improvised scenes in restaurants, movie theaters, the beach, etc.)
Class Times
To be determined through discussion with Rabbi Earne

Independent Study Jewish Learning Center (“iJLC”)
This program is offered to committed, motivated students who have an obligation that conflicts with the JLC class schedule that cannot be changed. Parents and students must both meet with Rabbi Earne to determine whether the student is eligible for the iJLC Program.
The requirements of the program are:
-
Students must attend a JLC class at least once a week
-
Students meet privately (regular meeting time is fixed at the convenience of both parties) with the iJLC tutor once a week for a half-hour session to cover the material missed (in Hebrew or Jewish Studies)
-
Homework will be given, which the parent oversees
-
An accountability contract is signed by the parent once Rabbi Earne and the parent and student agree the iJLC program is a good option
