🌟 Who Are the Shinshinim?Shinshinim of San Diego 5786 [2025-2026]

Shinshin is short for Shnat Sherut, Hebrew for “year of service.” Shinshinim are young Israeli leaders—typically 18-year-olds—who choose to defer their mandatory military service for one year to volunteer in Jewish communities abroad.

Here in San Diego, our Shinshinim work closely with synagogues, Jewish schools, and community organizations to build meaningful connections between local youths and Israel. They bring the human face of Israel to our community—sharing stories, culture, and perspectives that go far beyond politics or headlines.

At this event, our Shinshinim will lead breakout discussions, facilitate a memorial ceremony, and host games to help youths connect, reflect, and celebrate together.
