Join the Jewish community of San Diego for a dynamic, community-wide virtual Tu B'Shevat celebration! Learn with Rabbi Kornberg and our very own Nan Sterman, award-winning gardener and Beth Am member! Rabbis, synagogues, and community organizations from across San Diego will be joining in on this event for Jewish learning about environmentalism and sustainability in the spirit of ringing in the New Year of the Trees. We hope you will join us as we come together as a community in an informal setting in the spirit of renewal and Tu B'Shevat. Please see the schedule below.


Schedule

1:00 pm: Words of Welcome

 

1:05 pm: Jewish National Fund Speaker, Noa Zer. Learn from Noa Zer, Director of Resource Development for the Central Arava Regional Council about how Jewish National Fund makes the land of Israel bloom. [Please scroll down to learn more about Noa.]

 

1:20 pm: Learning / Text Study Breakout Rooms with Rabbis & Educators. Rabbi David Kornberg us excited to be a part of this virtual community-wide Tu B'Shevat celebration. There will be a 15 minute learning session in breakout rooms where he and other Rabbis and educators from our community will teach us about Tu B'Shevat, caring for the environment, the land of Israel and topics connecting us to Tu B'Shevat. We cannot wait to hear what Rabbi Kornberg will be teaching.

 

1:35pm: Gardening Workshop. We will all come together as our very own, Nan Sterman [please scroll down to learn more about Nan.] will lead us through an interactive, step-by-step gardening workshop (click here for the supply list) where you will learn to plant succulents from the comfort of your own home. Followed by a Q&A.

 

2:25pm: Closing Remarks.

Featuring

Nan Sterman. [WaterWise Gardens & Plants]. Nan Sterman is a garden designer, author, botanist, and award-winning garden communicator, dedicated to the transformation of planted landscapes from overly thirsty and resource intensive to climate appropriate and sustainable. Nan is host, co-producer, and co-writer of A Growing Passion, a television show that celebrates all the ways that San Diego “grows,” from farms and nurseries to backyards and schoolyards, to native habitats and more.

 

Noa Zer. As the Central Arava Regional Council’s Director of Resource Development, Noa Zer partners closely with JNF to sustain and develop Israel’s arid desert region along the Jordanian border. A sabra raised in the suburbs of Tel Aviv, Ms. Zer lives with her husband and three children.
