Rosh HaShanah Zoom Seder

Monday, September 6, 2021 29 Elul 5781

6:00 PM - 7:00 PMZoom Seder

Most people think only of Passover when they hear the word Seder. However, in the Sefardic and Mystical traditions, there are many more seders throughout the year.

Congregation Beth Am is once again celebrating the first Night of the haggim with a Rosh Hashanah Seder.  We invite each of you to join Rabbi Kornberg, Rabbi Earne and Hazan Pflug via Zoom as we bring in the New Year with symbols, song and community.

Rosh Hashanah celebrates the creation of the world, and once again we will be creating a special Rosh Hashanah experience as we adapt to the ever evolving COVID environment. .  While much of our programming this year will be in person, we feel the zoom setting provided by the Seder will link our diverse population of families, both those who will be home for the holidays and those who plan on coming in person. This year we will come together for our Seder at 6:00pm on Monday, September 6th.  You can find the zoom link on our website.

What is a Seder?  As a reminder, a Rosh Hashanah Seder is an ancient way of beginning Rosh Hashanah.  By seeing and eating different foods we are inspired to offer wishes and blessings for the New Year.  They also help us reflect on the past year and urge us to be our best selves in the year ahead.

What do I need?  Most importantly a computer and a link to our zoom.  You are welcome to just watch us on screen, or you can participate with us and buy the following foods we will use in the Seder.   Please try to locate the Beth Am placemat that we sent to you last year.  If you cannot find it you can click here to print out the pdf.

Items to have at your Rosh Hashanah Seder table:

  1. Pomegranates
  2. Dates
  3. Carrots
  4. Legumes
  5. Apples and honey
  6. SPECIAL FOR OUR SEDER:  A commodity from this past COVID year (ie.  Flour, milk….)

We will begin promptly at 6pm and our service will conclude at 6:45pm.

Last year, all Beth Am members received a High Holy Day kit which included the Rosh Hashanah Seder placemat. If you no longer have one, or if you are not a member, but would like to participate, please click here to download your own person placemat to follow along with.
