Join us for an exploration of some of the primary source documents that tell the story of the American Jewish experience. With the same attention and care that we typically devote to the study of our sacred texts, we will investigate important textual witnesses of American Jewish history. In this class, we will read and discuss the first North American Jewish community's petition to remain in the colonies, the sermon of a woman who dreamed of becoming a rabbi--nearly eighty years before that would be possible, and correspondence between European and American Jews at the dawn of World War II.
