B'nei Mitzvah

Continuing the Traditions of Our People, From Generation to Generation

Becoming a B'nei Mitzvah marks a profound milestone in a young person's Jewish journey. At Congregation Beth Am, we honor this sacred tradition as a beginning—a moment when a child steps into Jewish adulthood, embracing the responsibilities and privileges of living a life guided by mitzvot (commandments).

Jewish law designates age thirteen for boys and twelve for girls as the threshold of maturity. On this day, the child is called to the Torah, joins the community in a new way, and begins a lifelong path of spiritual growth and communal responsibility.

The B'nei Mitzvah journey is not just about the ceremony—it’s a transformative experience for the entire family. It’s a time for learning, reflection, and connection to Jewish identity and values. Preparation begins in our Jewish Learning Center (JLC) or a Jewish day school, with at least three years of study leading up to the B'nei Mitzvah year.

Approximately seven months before the ceremony, each student is paired with a dedicated tutor for personalized guidance. During 7th grade, families also participate in monthly Tafrit TNT classes, enriching the experience through shared learning and community engagement.
